We had a terrific day yesterday despite missing our families.
The turkey was perfectly delectable and we have tons of leftovers that I plan to section up for meals to freeze for after the baby is born. I don't plan to cook for about a month after the little one's appearance and the left over turkey is really going to help in the frozen meal department.
After most of us had finished eating I surprised my family with a funny new idea. I can't take full credit for it as Kim & Jason gave me the initial idea in this post (which you won't be able to read all of if you aren't a member, though I'll tell you it is about recreating the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving). I didn't think it would be creative to just do what Kim & Jason suggested so I decided to change it up a little.
We ate our potatoes like Piggies as little Randy did in A Christmas Story.
Bravely, I submit to you this video.
Now, most of my children have not seen this movie but I knew that it wouldn't matter. Seeing their mom dig her face into a pile of mashed potatoes made a positive memory. My goal is to give them fun and funny things to remember from their childhood, good memories that aren't overshadowed by 'stuff'. Silly traditions, goofball behaviors, and laughing create positive recollections that will stay with them forever. And honestly, we mostly just want them to come home for the holidays when they're adults.
We sang Karaoke afterwards but that video may be hidden away forever. I am not sure that I'm brave enough to throw that one out here - not being much of a singer. As a matter of fact, I could be described as the complete opposite of a good singer.
Then it was Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Funny how things from your childhood seem to have a completely different look and feel as an adult. What a dumb movie - but it was fun watching the kids giggle.
It was a very good day and, although it seems oversaid, I have so much to be thankful for - and I mean it.

Good Granny's Gravy that was WAY TO FUNNY!!!! How fun that looked, you look great for being 7-8 mo PG.. thanks for the idea, now to convince my hubby its a good idea LOL
Lisa -
Thanks for the compliment - I don't feel like I look good at 34 weeks and yesterday after being on my feet in the kitchen all day (something I love during the holidays) I was so swollen, which is quite unusual for me.
It is the opposite in our house - usually my husband has to do the convincing and I am the more shy one. You could probably tell by his eagerness to be a piggy in the video that he is just a large child.
Classic. You guys rock!
My hubby & I couldn't help but chuckle at this. You have a beautiful family & I'm glad to be introduced to your blog thru our dear friends, Kim & Jason!
Ha ha!! Hey, I brought mashed potatoes to church supper Sunday and I don't recall any of this going on! I bet you all had a laugh when you saw the potatoes. If only I had seen this video sooner!
You guys are fun parents. Thanks for the inspiration!
PS: This video would make for great wedding day viewing for any of your children!
